| Summer Sunset in the OK |
Summertime is in full swing in the OK. As I write this post, it is officially, the second day of summer. I didn't get to read about all of the summer solstice celebrations, this year. Always enjoyed the history, and learning about the pagan beliefs involved in these events.
This summer has been strange, as it is part of the strange year 2020. The covid 19 virus, economic upheavals, and protests, have all been happening. History, I am sure, will have quite a bit to say about 2020.
We have been busy, at my home, this summer. I finally got tired of flooding threats, and so, decided to finish the flood wall around my house. Over the last 20 years, or so, my house has had a few floods.
The water has never been deep, but just enough to make a mess of things. Probably, in all the time I have lived here, we have had about 6 flood events. Enough is enough, though, and with the tremendous help of Michael, my son, we finally finished the wall around our house. We are good, now, from the flood events, and only lack putting the cap blocks on the wall. The cap blocks are for wall integrity, but don't really play a role in stopping the flooding. We are now safe from floods.
The floods, here, only come when we get somewhere around 6 inches of rain in a very short time frame. I live near a creek, and the water will come up for about 10 minutes, max, and then go right back down. The wall is needed to keep that water back for those 10 minutes.
For several years, I had a very small portion of the wall finished. It saved us from flooding a few times. Now, we are good to go.
It was a lot of work moving and laying all of those cement blocks. Will have somewhere around 350 total blocks when we finish the cap blocks. It has been tough, manual labor, but well worth it.I might post a few pictures, sometime, about the wall and its features. Right now, I am just happy that we are safe from the flood worries, at last.
Hope you are safe from the floods of life, and that your summer is going well!
